Paddle Tennis

Dear HPTC Members:

Welcome to the Heritage Platform Tennis Club for what we anticipate to be another exciting season.  We’d like to extend an especially warm greeting to the new families joining this year.

Our the paddle courts will be open for play in September – though, for most, traditional platform weather is still several weeks away.

In this letter, please find all the necessary information to enjoy another season of paddle at the club.

The membership e-mail roster will be sent later for contacting other members to play.  Note - the roster is to be used strictly for paddle and social interaction.  It may not be used for solicitation or passed to any third party.  Please be sure we have your correct email address for all club communication and the reservation system.  A separate email will be sent asking you to confirm the email address for your membership this year.

In addition, this letter will be available for future reference on our club website – www.theheritageclub.org, and also on our facebook page (like it!), www.facebook.com/heritageplatformtennisclub

PROGRAMS

Court Clean-Up. We have scheduled our Club Appreciation Day for Saturday, September 30 at 9:00am. All member families are asked to send (at least) one representative to help get the courts and hut ready for the season. Please help fellow members in court appreciation activities, such as clearing courts, weeding the perimeter of the courts, branch trimming on surrounding trees, light bulb change out, wind screen repairs, and hut cleaning and setup. Please bring rakes, brooms, limb cutters, gloves, leaf blower, etc. This will also be a chance to meet other members, sign-up for clinics, learn more about league play and other programs. Look forward to seeing you there.

Season Tickets. Season tickets (season-long reservations at a certain time in the week) may be had subject to supply and demand by applying with a group of at least six members representing at least five families. Please send your member names and your time slot requests (first and second choice) to Pennie Driscoll at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it by September 21st. Season tickets apply to weekdays (Mo-Fr) and weeknights (Tu-Th) only and begin the week of October 1. Please see the time slots under ‘Reservations’ below. There is a limit of one weeknight season ticket per member. Season tickets may be cancelled by the Paddle Committee if season-ticketed courts are going unused and un-cancelled.

Clinics. We will again arrange to have several clinics throughout the season conducted by the area’s top teaching professionals. See the season calendar for currently planned clinics. Please contact Julie Kleyn ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) if you are interested in learning more.

Clinics will be offered for all levels and are typically $50 per person for a 90-minute group lesson with 4 players per court.

Tournaments. Tournaments are a fun way to meet other players and improve your game. See the season calendar for currently planned tournaments in February and March, there is plenty of room on the calendar to add others. However, for these events to take place, we need Tournament Directors to help organize / coordinate. If interested, please contact any of the Paddle Committee members.

Monday Night Round Robin. This year, Mondays will continue with a popular format introduced last year. In this Open format (e.g., all levels, men and women), the club’s most spirited players will rotate in a modified Round-Robin format. The first four players will play a set. The winning team will stay on the court to play another set, however will split, and each take a new partner from the hut. Play will continue in this format – winning teams of each set staying on the court, but splitting and opposing each other. Please contact Chris Durning at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to add your name to the Monday Night roster.

Women’s League – Wednesday nights. The Heritage Women's Team will continue in exciting league play each Wednesday evening against area clubs. If you have an interest in playing contact Team Captain Betsy Parrot at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Weekend Night Social. Join other members for an evening of paddle, drinks, food, and fun on one Friday or Saturday night most months. Begin at 6:30, and drop-in with your paddle and an optional cocktail and/or an appetize. See the season calendar for specific dates, and stay tuned for weekly updates and additional details.

Weekend Parties. Friday and Saturday nights (except Social dates) are excluded from season ticket applications so that all members have the chance to host weekend parties. Friday and Saturday night parties can / should be booked one week in advance (and can extend beyond the normal 90-minute reservation limit) by contacting Pennie Driscoll at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

RESERVATIONS

We have renewed the on-line court reservation system from last year. You may book courts up to four days in advance. You may not book three-hour slots, even under different names (although members are welcome -- and encouraged! -- to stay beyond their 90-minute reservation time if the time isn't booked). You must cancel reservations you find you can't use so courts don't go to waste.

To make a reservation follow these steps:

Click on this link to the system Reservat ions

(We suggest that you bookmark it in your web browser for future use; the link can also be found at the bottom on the "Paddle" page on the Heritage web site: http://www.theheritageclub.org )

·       The first page will ask for the password.  (Members will have received this year’s password by email).

·       The system will then take you to the schedule for the current day.  By using the pull down menu you can also access the schedule for the next 3 days;

·       If a court time is available it will be marked "click here";

·       Click on the box for the time that you want to reserve;

·       Fill in the reservation page with up to 4 names (Note: Only 1 name is required), enter your email address and click on "confirm reservation";

·       The system will then return you to the schedule for the day of your reservation, a message will appear confirming that the reservation has been made and an email will be sent to you confirming the reservation, if you entered an email address.

To cancel a reservation:

·       Access the system as described above;

·       Go to the date of the reservation that you want to cancel;

·       Click on the box for the time that you wish to cancel;

·       The cancellation page will appear.  Follow the instructions on the page by entering the name of the first player in the group just as it was entered when the reservation was made - then click on the cancellation button;

·       The system will then return you to the schedule for the day of your cancellation, a message will appear confirming that the cancellation has been made and an email will be sent to you confirming the cancellation, if you entered an email address when you made the reservation.

If you experience problems with the system send a message to Paul ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

POLICIES AND GUIDELINES

Waitlist – The club currently maintains an active list of families seeking to join the club. If you know of anyone interested in becoming members, please have them contact Pennie Driscoll ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) who will provide the waitlist forms / information. The current application / waitlist fee is $50; this fee will be waived for Heritage Swim & Tennis members. Those on the waitlist may play at the club when accompanied by a member, and are welcome to participate in club activities (clinics, socials, tournaments, etc.) based upon availability with members receiving priority. Waitlist players may NOT book courts.

Guests – Non-members may play up to two times per month as a guest of a member. Members may invite individuals currently on the HPTC waitlist as often as they like. There is currently no charge for guests. Guests are required to be signed in, there is a sign-in book in the Hut for this purpose.

Shoveling - There are shovels available in the paddle hut, and, for light snow, members are expected to shovel their courts before play. Flip the snowboards up (unlock by lifting straight up) and push the snow into the parking lot. Do not bury the walkways. If snow removal delays the onset of play the shoveling members are entitled to extend their time to get their full 1 1/2 hour playing time, and this may ripple through the day. Major snow (over 3 inches) is handled by contractors.

In the event of significant snowfall or other issues impacting safety, the club may have to close for a period of time to properly clear the parking lot and the courts. If this is the case, the club will send out an email announcement with an expected time of re-opening.

Propane Heaters - The heaters/blowers use 8 gallons of propane per court hour so must be used judiciously. They are to be used only for keeping snow and ice from accumulating on a cleared court. Do not use the heaters to attempt to melt accumulated snow – as this will make shoveling much harder. Also, they are not to be used to provide heat as you play.

Lights - It is imperative that court lights be off by 10:30 PM. This is an agreement with the town and a stipulation in our operating permit with the town. Light switches are in the hut. Be sure to turn off the court lights when you are finished unless there is another group behind you.

Hut - When you leave, make sure you take any remaining alcohol products with you -- we cannot have unsupervised alcohol left in the refrigerator. Make sure yu turn off the hut heater when you leave.

Membership Roster - The roster is to be used strictly for paddle and social interaction. It may not be used for solicitation or passed to any third party.

Language/Noise - Please respect our neighbors by keeping our noise levels down and our language clean.

Carry-In / Carry-Out - Like all community treasures, the courts, hut, and fellow members deserve our respect. Please clean-up after each evening’s activities and bring the trash and recycling down to the dumpster area.

Facility Issues – Please report facility issues e.g. lights out, icey ramp or parking lot, court time conflicts, etc. to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

We are all looking forward to another great season!
